The guitarists who have been the most influential to me over the years all have a guitar look they are known for. Eddie Van Halen, John 5, Jimmy Page and my most influential guitarist … James Hetfield. When I discovered Metallica as a teenager (many years ago) I was forced to rethink my approach to guitar playing. Since then I’ve valued a riff higher than any guitar solo. Nothing says metal to me like James Hetfield behind his white Explorer shaped guitar. The LTD Snakebyte is the modern take on that iconic look.
I’ve actually seen this guitar in one of my local guitar stores. It’s a giant of a guitar when compared to many of the Strat style guitars on the market today. It seems LTD made a giant guitar for a giant man. The colour range for this guitar however is not huge. That’s a good thing as the guitar comes in white and also black (as all good guitars should). Of course this guitar features many items that all good guitars have.
- Twin humbuckers (EMG JH active pickups)
- Independent volume controls
- Three-way pickup selector switch
- Black hardware
- Locking tuners.
The guitar is constructed using mahogany with an ebony fingerboard. The 12th fret marker is a great Metallica style snake inlay. It’s just a wicked looking metal guitar. It’s simple, but I imagine this guitar is one you pick up, plug in and riff with until you can’t riff anymore. I just can’t imagine anybody picking this guitar up and not wanting to test their downstroke rhythm guitar techniques. Work that low E!
Disclaimer: I’ve not played this guitar. I have not experienced the sound or feel of this guitar. That doesn’t matter. It looks awesome, it’s obviously played by winners and I want one.
