52 Amplifier Heads, week 31—The Valve 105 ‘Bimbo’ head

Valve amps. Tube amps. Same thing. It just depends where you reside mostly. Me, I use both terms. It’s as close to bilingual as I get. For today’s article however I’ll try and stick with the term valve. Why? Well the manufacturer of the amplifier I’m craving this week is The Valve Amplification. I imagine they like to use valves in their amplifiers. Especially the 105 Bimbo head. That’s the amp I want this week. 52 Amplifier Heads, week 31—The Valve 105 ‘Bimbo’ head

Fellow plectrums—Sturdy and colourful Australian plectrums

I recently came across Fellow Plectrums on Instagram. They had quite a few plectrum options including some black and white picks. Yes! Plectrums I could relate to. Upon checking out their profile on Instagram I noticed they were located in Australia. So am I. This made me realise that we were fellow Aussies. For that line alone I knew I had to try their plectrums. Fellow plectrums—Sturdy and colourful Australian plectrums

12 reasons you need multiple guitars

Over the last few days I’ve been posting pictures and asking questions on my Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr accounts. Of course they’ve all been guitar related questions, but they’ve been questions with reason. By posting these photos and asking these questions I’ve compiled quite the list of reasons people need multiple guitars. I now have justification for my current collection as well as future purchases. Yes! That’s how I’ve justified it in my mind at least. If you agree, you also have the benefit of this list of reasons to refer to when justifying your next intended guitar purchase.

You’re welcome. 12 reasons you need multiple guitars

52 Amplifier Heads, week 27—Palmer EINS

Sometimes when researching guitar amplifiers I not only come across something that meets my criteria, I also come across a brand that markets in a way that appeals to me. It does so by being humorous. Palmer Musical Instruments is such a brand. When I first discovered their little one watt amp (the Palmer EINS) I couldn’t help but notice the website header with slogans such as fat is beautiful and who’s up for a threesome?. Of course they’re referring to tone and their triple single ended amplifier, but all the same, I was hooked. 52 Amplifier Heads, week 27—Palmer EINS

The 52 articles series

If you’ve been to this website more than once and you’ve been coming here for a few years, then you may have seen the odd 52 guitars or 52 amplifiers article. I don’t mean odd as in peculiar by the way. Although they could be. I have a bad habit of just writing the first thing that comes to mind. A bit like now really. If you have no idea what I’m talking about right now, but think you may come back again one day, then today may be your lucky day. You could suggest what the next 52 articles series is all about.

Awesome right? And confusing. The 52 articles series

52 Amplifier Heads, week 29—Peavey ValveKing Micro-head

I’ll be honest. I’ve been looking forward to writing this week’s article. I know weeks in advance for the most part what the upcoming amplifier will be in this weekly series of 52 Amplifiers. Knowing that week 29 is finally here is rewarding because I finally get to write about the Peavey ValveKing Micro-head. The reason I’m excited is that I’ve wanted a Peavey amplifier for almost as long as I’ve been playing guitar. That is a long time and a lot of things happened along the way. I’ve always known however that I’d get around to purchasing a Peavey eventually. This may be that time. 52 Amplifier Heads, week 29—Peavey ValveKing Micro-head

52 Amplifier Heads, week 28—Traynor Dark Horse 15H

As I write this week’s entry in the 52 Amplifiers article series many fellow Queenslanders will be watching the State of Origin series. If you’re unsure what any of that means, never fear. All you need to know is that the State of Origin is a sporting event that I’m not interested in. Having said that, I figured I’d try to tackle this week’s Blog post with as many football innuendos as possible. Tying in these innuendos to the Traynor DH15H shouldn’t be too hard really. You see, the DH in DH15H stands for Dark Horse which is exactly what New South Wales was before the State of Origin began. 52 Amplifier Heads, week 28—Traynor Dark Horse 15H

Joyo Ultimate Drive (as recorded unprofessionally by me)

Recently I accepted a challenge—foolishly most likely—set by a couple of my fellow guitar addicted Twitter friends (let’s call them Peter and the Baron). The challenge was to produce a video that showcased one of the guitar pedals we owned. We had a finite time to produce the video as well. The challenge was flawed from the start. It was flawed because I realised after accepting the challenge that I’d never miked an amp before. Plus I don’t have a great YouTube presence. That’s primarily because I have no idea how to edit video properly. Oh, I’m also not a confident guitar player/sharer. Apart from that though, the challenge was easy!

Having said all of that. I’d do it again. Joyo Ultimate Drive (as recorded unprofessionally by me)
