Another 52 Guitars, week 17—B.C. Rich Mockingbird Extreme with Evertune bridge

My true love for metal guitar came along as I lived as a teenager through the 80s. I loved all genres of metal in the 80s, but some of the more memorable bands played the pointiest of pointy guitars and few were pointier than B.C. Rich. As I continue my series of guitars I’d love to purchase—all guitars having something new to add to my collection—the Mockingbird Extreme with Evertune bridge ticks a lot of boxes.

It doesn’t hurt that the guitar just looks amazing.

Another 52 Guitars, week 16—Grainger Guitars Hades

One trend I’m noticing more with the guitars I’m coming across for this year’s Another 52 guitars series is the craftmanship that is going into some of the more boutique luthiers I’m discovering. Honestly, I’m loving the way the modern guitars are looking. Don’t get me wrong, I love the traditional shapes as much as anyone else, but for the guitar industry to have a future I honestly believe it needs guitars that are unique. Guitars such as the Hades by Grainger Guitars. This thing is absolutely beautiful.

Another 52 Guitars, week 15—Lionheart Guitars Balkatora Eye of Kala IV

If you’ve been reading the articles in this series, you’ll know I’m looking at guitars that have something unique—when compared to my own current collection’s feature set. Well, today’s guitar ticks more boxes than any previous guitar in this series.I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a guitar this unique.

Let’s take a look at the Balkatora-Eye of Kala IV by Lionheart Guitars.

Another 52 Guitars, week 14—Fender Jim Root Jazzmaster v4

The first time I did this 52 guitars thing, I had a Telecaster in the list that was a Jim Root signature model. Later on when I did the 52 amplifiers series, I had a Jim Root signature model amplifier. Now I’m not the world’s great Slipknot or Stone Sour fan, but I will say this … Jim Root knows good gear.

Jim Root’s new Fender Jazzmaster v4 is no exception. Matter of a fact, I think it’s his best signature model yet. This guitar looks amazing.

Another 52 Guitars, week 12—Prestige Guitars DC Coupe Ace MB

Here’s a quick recap for those who may be new to this site and/or new to this series. I love guitars—I may have a few of my own already—and I love looking into guitars that I don’t own, but would love to own. Back in 2013 I did my first series of 52 Guitars—52 different guitars by 52 different guitar manufacturers—and by that year’s end I’d bought one of the guitars in my wish list.

This year I’m revisiting the series concept and if all goes to plan, I may end up buying a new guitar from this year’s wish list. Perhaps it would be this week’s entry, the DC Coupe Ace MB by Prestige Guitars.

How to ‘guitar’ safely at home

The majority of us right now are either totally self-isolating or at least spending many more hours at home than we have ever done before. For some of us, this isn’t a bad thing because we have guitars. But beyond playing or practicing more at home, what else can we do with our guitar fascinations while we have more time at home than we’d normally have?

I thought I’d put together a list. I’m happy to add to it if people think of something I miss. I hope this helps make each day at home that little more productive, enjoyable or perhaps positively distracting.

Another 52 Guitars, week 10—VanderMeij Guitars–the Magistra

Before I start this next late article in my Another 52 guitars series, I want to say to all readers of this article “Stay safe”. We are clearly in times unlike any of us have experienced before. We’re all going through trying situations daily and it’s difficult for some people—myself included—to focus on the things we’d been focusing on at the beginning of this year.

Having said that, I feel like it’s important to continue to have something positive to focus on. For me, one of those focus points is the possibility of a beautiful and shiny new guitar. So today, I return to my writing about the latest guitar that has caught my eye—the Magistra by VanderMeij Guitars.
