52 pedals, week 17—Overdrive No.30 w/ Allen Bradley’s (Star Wars Editions)

Once again I find myself playing catch-up on my weekly Blog posting. I don’t know why I can’t keep up. It’s not like I’m off saving the universe or anything. Although, if I were, today would be the day I’d do it. For those of you unaware, today is May the 4th (AKA Star Wars Day). Why?

May the Fourth be with you.

I love this day. It’s also the main reason I decided to add this week’s pedal when I did. The Overdrive No.30 w/ Allen Bradley’s (Star Wars Editions) pedal by Midnight 30 Music is an awesome sounding overdrive pedal that is hand built in upstate New York. Everyone loves a good hand made American pedal.

Another thing I like about these pedals is that they’re incredibly affordable. $110USD. I wonder what postage to Australia would be.

The pedal itself is using the same circuitry as the standard Overdrive No.30 which you can see and hear in the video below. Notice the versatility of tone. Very cool.

You’ll notice in that video that there is a switch at the top of the pedal. This allows you to switch from drive to boost. The three knobs beneath that switch are (left to right) Volume, Tone and Gain. It’s a simple, but beautiful sounding pedal. It’s also true bypass. It keeps on winning.

Oh, it may be worth pointing out that the Overdrive No.30 pedal comes in a few different formats too. Clearly today you’d want the Star Wars edition. On any other day though, you may want the Special (sample video below), the With Allen Bradleys or the No.30+ (which is essentially two No.30s in one pedal). So awesome. I want one of these bad. Especially the Star Wars version.

Oh, just for the record, puns I decided to not work into this week’s article included:

  • Leave space for this on your pedal board.
  • Imagine owning this pedal. Saber that moment.
  • Not taking this pedal seriously would be a Wookie move.
  • Yo! Da pedal be awesome!

Enjoy.

Disclaimer: I’ve not played this guitar pedal. I have not experienced first-hand the sound or effects of this guitar pedal. That doesn’t matter. It looks awesome, it’s obviously played by winners and I want one.
