52 Guitars, week 30—Washburn Guitars Paul Stanley PS1800CM

As an Australian graphic designer who uses the metric system I saw the code name of the Washburn Guitars Paul Stanley PS1800CM and thought “Damn! That’s a massive guitar!”  Although I have no idea what the 1800 refers to, I’m pretty sure the CM stands for the cracked mirror finish this awesome guitar comes with. I know KISS is big, but I can breathe a sigh of relief knowing this is a standard sized guitar that mere mortals like me can aspire to. I can’t be Paul Stanley—I’m pretty sure I wanted to do that when I was 12 years old—but I can play his electric guitar.

I just love the design of this guitar. The body shape shouts its awesomeness from 12 inch platforms and the headstock shape isn’t backward about coming forward either. This isn’t the guitar for quiet music or musicians (it can probably handle that, but why would it?). No, this is the guitar for the loud and proud. I imagine the hardware just makes things better (or worse depending on your outlook).

  • Dual humbucker pickups
  • 2 volume controls and 1 tone control
  • Grover tuners
  • Buzz Feiton tuning system
  • 22 jumbo frets
  • 18:1 Grover tuners

Of course there’s the hardcore cracked mirror finish on the guitar’s body. I love it. It works so beautifully with all the chrome accessories/hardware. Speaking of which, I love the Star Child tailpiece and the MOP/Abalone split fretboard inlays. They match the broken finish of the guitar body.

Honestly, how you not own this guitar and want to be a strutter?! You admire the guitar. I’m off to revisit Unmasked and my pre-teenage years.

Disclaimer: I’ve not played this guitar. I have not experienced the sound or feel of this guitar. That doesn’t matter. It looks awesome, it’s obviously played by winners and I want one.
