Back in 1979 I visited the USA for the very first time as a young pre-teen. I spent 3 months going to school there. One of my fondest memories of the time is colour. That may seem strange coming from a website that dedicates itself to all black and white content, but it’s still true. Brightly coloured skateboards were the rage as were Harley Davidsons with the most amazing and vibrant colour schemes. I wasn’t as involved with guitars back then as I am now, but I do remember seeing some guitars and colour was big in that world too. The guitar I’ve discovered for this week’s article combines the colours of the era with some of the coolest modern features you can get in a guitar today. It also happens to be one of the sexiest designs I’ve seen. Ever. … 52 Guitars, week 45—Grosh Guitars Sunset ’79
SC and SG guitar editors by Frank Montag
It’s apparently been around for a few years, but I only discovered Frank Montag’s online guitar designer today. I had to share this though as the online guitar designer is great fun. Essentially, you get to design your own Les Paul or SG style guitar. The Les Paul shape is the SC option in the online guitar editor. The SG shape is the SG option. Makes sense. … SC and SG guitar editors by Frank Montag
Steve Case CD artwork—Wooden Grove
Back on 01 April this year I wrote about the CD artwork I had done for Steve Case. It may have been April Fool’s Day, but the article was deadly serious. I live in Australia by the way, so I know a thing or two about deadly. Well it’s 01 November now and I’m here to tell you that I’ve successfully created another piece of CD artwork for Steve Case. I’m like a graphic designer or something. Seriously (because there’s no such thing as November Fools). … Steve Case CD artwork—Wooden Grove
BakTrak—The ultimate MP3 backing track pedal
If you’re a guitarist who likes to use non-guitar introductions (such as keyboard tracks) in your song writing/performing, then you may very well be interested in the BakTrak pedal. The BakTrak pedal is a three-in-one background music device that you can use while practicing at home, or while performing live on stage. From what I can determine, it’s a pretty sturdy little unit. … BakTrak—The ultimate MP3 backing track pedal
52 Guitars, week 44—Halo Goliath Baritone
I was recently shown the Halo guitars website and I have to say their Custom Shop is incredibly appealing. You can select 6, 7 and 8 string guitars as well as 4, 5, 6 and 8 string bass guitars. So many options. For this weekly article series however I need to focus on one guitar. It was difficult, but from the Halo catalogue I have to say the Goliath Baritone 8 string guitar appeals to me a lot. A Les Paul style guitar with 33% more string? Awesome. … 52 Guitars, week 44—Halo Goliath Baritone
Scarebear custom Reedsdale (Moniker Guitars)
This is a guitar I designed with Moniker Guitars. All components were chosen by me and the spiral design is my own creation. The headstock branding and the word Scarebear on the neck comes from my Scarebear logo.
Sadly, Moniker Guitars is no longer in business.
… Scarebear custom Reedsdale (Moniker Guitars)The Moniker Guitars ‘Scarebear’ spiral Reedsdale
I’ve written about them a few times now, but I can honestly say Moniker Guitars deliver what they promise. When I last mentioned them, I referenced the guitar I had ordered. Well that guitar has arrived and I couldn’t be happier. My custom Reedsdale is just awesome. This guitar is without a doubt the best out-of-the-case setup I’ve ever experienced. The action is low, fret buzz doesn’t exist and the amplified sound is just awesome. … The Moniker Guitars ‘Scarebear’ spiral Reedsdale
52 Guitars, week 43—Ethan Hart EH-21-WH
Not that I’m a lead guitarist (or a decent guitarist for that matter), but I do like a double cutaway guitar. I’m also a fan of a symmetrical guitar design. I imagine that’s been one of the Gibson SG’s long-lasting selling points. The Ethan Hart EH-21-WH is an awesome looking modern take on a classic design style. It’s also pointier and I’m a big fan of pointy guitars! … 52 Guitars, week 43—Ethan Hart EH-21-WH
52 Guitars, week 42—Tao Guitars El Mirage
If you haven’t worked it out yet, I love guitars. I see many of them as art. Sometimes I find that rare guitar that actually looks more like a piece of art than a functional guitar. The Tao Guitars El Mirage is one such guitar. Problem is (if you can call this a problem) this guitar is functional. Just ask Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top. … 52 Guitars, week 42—Tao Guitars El Mirage
52 Guitars, week 41—Codella Guitars
I discovered this week’s dream guitar maker luthier when I was perusing the prizes one lucky person is going to win in Sonoma Wireworks‘ RiffRumble 23. A major component of the first prize is a Codella Stormchaser Guitar. I had not heard of Codella Guitars so I visited their website. I’m glad I did. If you read on, I believe you’ll be glad too. … 52 Guitars, week 41—Codella Guitars
