52 Guitars, week 42—Tao Guitars El Mirage

If you haven’t worked it out yet, I love guitars. I see many of them as art. Sometimes I find that rare guitar that actually looks more like a piece of art than a functional guitar. The Tao Guitars El Mirage is one such guitar. Problem is (if you can call this a problem) this guitar is functional. Just ask Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top.

You seriously need to check out the image gallery on the official website. This guitar is just beautiful. There is even a full PDF brochure to download from the website. That brochure is a great read. The story behind Billy Gibbons’ custom El Mirage is amazing. Such attention to detail went into that guitar.

So what are the features of this guitar? According to the website, here’s what the standard model contains:

  • Maple neck, rosewood fretboard
  • Chambered Spanish cedar body (for a light weight finish)
  • Gotoh Vintage 510 H.A.P. tuners
  • Custom screwless control plate
  • Automotive DuPont paint finish
  • Custom controls

Pretty impressive. The custom built pickup looks awesome! If you haven’t yet, visit the gallery. A picture is worth a thousand words so you’ve got twelve thousand words worth of imagery to experience there. Check out the custom bridge. Admire the guitar’s immaculate finish. Read the brochure. Look at more pictures. Then do what I’m doing. Imagine owning such a piece of guitar art.

Disclaimer: I’ve not played this guitar. I have not experienced the sound or feel of this guitar. That doesn’t matter. It looks awesome, it’s obviously played by winners and I want one.
