The other day this sheila I know reckoned it was hard to pick up on me accent through written words alone. “Fair suck of the sav” I said to meself. Surely I can make it obvious that I’m from strayaa. I mean fair dinkum, how’d ya combat a language barrier when you’re tryin’ to explain a dead set ripper of an amplifier head as part of ya weekly amplifier head series I pondered. “Well struth!” I said to meself. You’d hafta at least make sure ya covered an Aussie amplifier when speakin’ the lingo. So I did me some research and came across this beaut amplifier called the Angry Ant by Sherlock amplifiers.
I just hope youse all follow what I’m tellin’ ya now. I’m sure you’se will all be right as rain.
The Angry Ant head is a 5 watt little tube amplifier that doesn’t look like it buggers around. It’s smaller than your average slab and probably lighter too (which won’t leave you too rooted after you’ve lugged it around all day). This bottler of an amp is all tube too mate. Don’t you worry about that. Check out this bonzo list of features.
- 5 watts
- 1 x 12AX7 preamp
- 1 x 6L6 poweramp
- Gain, Tone and Volume controls
- 1 x 8 ohm speaker output
- Line out
- Speaker mute switch
- (True) Blue illuminated perspex front panel
- Hand made
That’s more features than you can shake a stick at! It looks like Sherlock Amplifiers dug deep when they made this one.
I won’t spin you a yarn about the tone though ’cause I haven’t been able to dig up a decent video or sound file on this little gem. Not that I’m worried. Nah mate, this doesn’t cost a squillion quid or nuthin’ so I reckon she’d be safe to buy. I’d cough up a few bucks to give her a burl. I’ll let ya know if that ever happens. If it does, I’ll be goin’ off like a frog in a sock. That’s for sure.
Disclaimer: I’ve not played through this head. I have not experienced the sound or tone of this head other than through video. That doesn’t matter. It looks awesome, it’s obviously played by winners and I want one.
