Waterfall in sunlight

I took this photograph in the middle of the day—making the slower exposure trickier to manage—while still managing to capture an appropriate amount of water movement.

The photograph was taken on my film SLR—believed to have been a Canon AE-1—on a tripod in the Nerima Gardens in Ipswich, Queensland, Australia.

Mater Mothers’ Hospitals billboard

While designing for Mater, I created the billboard that announced the development of the new building that was being constructed to house both Mater Mothers’ Hospital and Mater Mothers’ Private Hospital (now Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane). The billboard design announced that Mater was expecting a new building (a term often associated with mothers who are expecting a child).

Butcherbird in Mount Crosby

I photographed this butcherbird on my mother’s verandah—which is a deck if you’re not Australian—using her Nikon SLR. I don’t recall the model of camera, but it was before the digital SLR world took over from film.

Photograph originally uploaded to Flick in 2005.

Butterfly finally resting in a tree

Butterflies are tricky to photograph as they are always in motion. I managed to stick with one on a day that it took a small rest in a tree in our back yard.

Photograph taken sometime prior to 2005 when this image was originally uploaded to my Flickr account. Camera unknown.

Coastal apartments

This apartment block sat between the apartment I was staying in and the coastline. Luckily I felt it was a good architectural photographic composition. Photograph taken on Canon PowerShot S2 IS.

Curlew resting on one leg

I found this curlew (which I believe is a Bush Stone Curlew) resting on one leg in a local animal reserve. Just after I took this photograph, the curlew revealed it’s second leg (which had been tucked up into its body). Photograph taken on the Canon PowerShot S2 IS digital camera.

Candid wombat

I managed to convince a wombat in a local animal reserve to stand still and pose for this photograph. At least, that’s how it felt. Photograph taken on the Canon PowerShot S2 IS.

Possum strangely on the ground

Possums on the ground during the daytime are unusual. They are easier to photograph, but shouldn’t otherwise be seen this way. Photograph captured and possum captured as well—safely by local wildlife rescuers who restored the possum to health before releasing it back to the wild.

Photograph captured using a Canon PowerShot S2 IS.

Mushrooms

Mushrooms growing wild in a local nature reserve. Photograph taken on the Panasonic DMC-FZ1 digital camera.

Parrot in the aviary at Queens Park

I find the aviary in Queens Park—Ipswich, Australia—to be a bittersweet experience. It’s good to see so many species of birds in trees and with flowing waterways inside a zone that keeps them predator-free. It’s also sad to think of these birds not flying outside allowing them to spread their wings for hours on end.

Either way, I’d never have managed this close-up photograph of a parrot without the aviary access. Photograph taken on a Panasonic digital camera which tried to be somewhere between a simple point-and-click and a DSLR.
