52 Guitars, week 39—Normandy Guitars Chrome Archtop

There are many musical genres. This is what I’ve heard at least. For me, there is metal and there is … whatever else other people listen to. The same is also true for guitars. There are many makes and models of guitar and most of them have one thing in common … Wood. Every now and then though, you come across a guitar that stands out for the same reason my favourite musical genre does … Metal.

The Normandy Guitars Chrome Archtop has a maple neck with a rosewood fretboard, but that’s basically where the non-metal components end. Steel strings, full metal hardware and of course, an aircraft-grade aluminum body. I say aluminum because that is how Normandy Guitars describe it. As an Australian I really want to say aluminium. There … I said it.

An all-chrome guitar complete with metal rivets. This guitar looks awesome. But how do the features stack up in a list?!

  • Hard rock maple neck
  • Bigsby B70 tailpiece
  • Locking roller bridge
  • Two Normandy humbucker pickups
  • Individual volume controls plus shared tone control
  • Chrome (of course) tuning pegs
  • Chrome (of course) hardware
  • 3-way pickup switch
  • Heavy duty kill switch

They stack up like a trooper! Even the wooden neck is made out of hard rock maple making it almost metal. \m/

I’ve mentioned on many an article this year how I love my guitars to be black and/or white. Well with this chrome metal finish this is basically a shiny grey guitar. Grey is made up of black and white. Could this be the perfect guitar?! I don’t know. But it sure does look awesome.

Disclaimer: I’ve not played this guitar. I have not experienced the sound or feel of this guitar. That doesn’t matter. It looks awesome, it’s obviously played by winners and I want one.
