While designing for Mater I created the Redlands Clinic logo. The logo needed to represent the medical aspect of the business while still appearing community oriented. The use of the colour red ties in with both of those requirements as does the logo’s font pairing.

I used to run a website dedicated to random articles that were about anything and everything. That website was maybedaily.info. Written daily … maybe. The concept was to be a news source where the news was all daily activities that had an element of humour about them. It was almost news without being news. Therefore the logo needed to represent a news source logo without being totally serious.

Prior to dedicating my Scarebear website to my guitar fascination, I started a small website called 47 Guitars. The aim was to post weekly guitar related articles for 47 weeks straight. I later decided to incorporate that concept into the main Scarebear website instead. The logo for 47 Guitars was intended to represent the guitar subject matter which was achieved by using the plectrum shape.

This is the logo I created for the first version of my online digital graphic design portfolio. Originally all of my websites had their own brand and name—it was not very connected or obvious. The logo represents the use of ink (through the obvious ink splatter) as does the font style (by using a newspaper styled serif font). The logo is all black and white as is often my design preference.

I decided to create a brand for my main website that reflected my rough around the edges approach to all-things guitar. I’m not an expert and I’m not perfect. The logo needed to reflect that. My handle Scarebear—which has been a nickname of mine for over 20 years—also implies something that is primal. To date this logo has been applied—in varying formats—to my website, plectrums and business cards.

Many years ago I ran a small web design/development business that specialised in brochureware style websites. The goal was to build wicked little websites for people who wanted something that focused on content, design and accessibility. The logo for that business needed to be a blend between professional and wicked. This was that logo.
