I don’t know if it’s a global thing or not, but where I come from GTS is generally associated with hot-rodded cars. GTS has implied fast for as long as I can remember. The G&L Tribute Series Fiorano GTS looks to me like it might also be built for speed. It’s a no-nonsense design that comes in a finish I love … Trans black. Awesome. … 52 Guitars, week 35—G&L Tribute Series Fiorano GTS

52 Guitars, week 34—Cort Viva Custom
I came close to buying a Cort a few years ago. I don’t remember the exact model, but it was from the Zenox series and I loved it. The reason I didn’t buy the guitar? The salesperson I was liaising with. He wasn’t telling the exact truth when I was asking about some of the guitar’s specifics. That annoyed me and I ended up shopping at another guitar store (that didn’t stock Cort Guitars). … 52 Guitars, week 34—Cort Viva Custom
Lick of the Day collaboration
A few days ago I posted a very quick riff I’d called From Go to Woah! that I’d created using IK Multimedia’s AmpliTube on the iPad. Not long after posting that riff to SoundCloud Dave from the Lick of the Day website asked if he could record a solo over it. I said “Sure” and sent Dave my exported WAV and MP3 files from AmpliTube.
Before I could say “Yngwie Malmsteen is a ferociously fast guitar player who has a fascination with Ferraris and Rolexs” Dave had created his solo, laid it over my backing track and released it as his latest Lick of the Day with video and tab for all to enjoy. Dave’s solo track is entitled Don’t poke the Scarebear. Obviously, I love it. … Lick of the Day collaboration
If I had a signature guitar …
Peter Hodgson from I Heart Guitar has written a really good blog post based on a series of questions that started with a forum thread on the Seymour Duncan User Group Forum. The blog post shares—and then answers—this basic question … If a guitar manufacturer contacted you wanting to create your signature guitar, what would it be? That’s the basic question. Easy right? Yeah, let the dreaming begin. … If I had a signature guitar …
52 Guitars, week 33—GJ2 Concorde
At the time of writing, the best guitar in my small collection of guitars is my Jackson RR3. It’s my most expensive guitar and it’s the guitar I planned for more than any other. Why? Randy Rhoads. Ever since seeing footage of Randy Rhoads playing his Jackson I wanted one. The GJ2 Concorde looks very similar to the Jackson Randy Rhoads models. It should too. It’s designed and built by Grover Jackson (Hence the GJ name). Grover Jackson designed this guitar shape with Randy Rhoads. How could you not want a piece of that action?! … 52 Guitars, week 33—GJ2 Concorde
My Moniker Guitars journey begins
Regular readers of this website would have heard me mention Moniker Guitars this year. They were the the fourth guitar in my 52 Guitars series and I also stated back in March that they would build my next guitar after I won their Ugly Guitar contest. I also mentioned Moniker Guitars when they had their Kickstarter campaign going. I pledged to purchase the custom guitar pedal (Hype Box) they were building with the intention of ordering my custom guitar from Moniker Guitars in time to have it delivered at the same time as my Hype Box pedal. Well guess what? That time is now. I have begun the official journey and my Moniker Guitars custom Reedsdale Solid is underway. I am surely months away from what will be a difficult time for my family as I refuse to leave my guitar room. … My Moniker Guitars journey begins
Fender Standard Series—Swirl
I’m lucky enough to own a Fender Stratocaster and a Fender Squier Telecaster. I love them both. But that doesn’t stop me from looking at the other models that are out there. Recently I discovered the Fender Standard Series guitars had introduced a swirl finish for both the Stratocaster and the Telecaster. Both look awesome! … Fender Standard Series—Swirl
52 Guitars, week 32—Mayones Legend 22 Katatonia
This week I added a new poll to the website. So I thought I’d make this week’s guitar Polish. Actually I didn’t put that much thought into it (plus I realise the spelling would differ if I was to try and make them relate). Regardless, the article for week 32 has begun!
Mayones has been creating guitars and basses in Poland since 1982. In these modern times they have some impressive artists on their roster and on top of that, they make the Legend 22 Katatonia. This is one beautiful looking black and white guitar. … 52 Guitars, week 32—Mayones Legend 22 Katatonia
Steve Case (Wooden Grove) CD artwork
This was the second CD design I worked on for musician Steve Case. This job required a simple single fold cardboard sleeve. The front and back cover were made to look like a leather bound book while the inside spread looked like the inside of the book cover. The inner-left panel contained a printed message from Steve Case while the inner-right panel allowed him to write a personal message (plus signature) for anybody who purchased a CD from one of his live performances.
